This is a district headquarters located to the northwest part of the Jharkhand state, this district is surrounded with forest region which exposes nature so green and lovely to tour. This district is bounded by the Gaya district ( Buhar State) in the north, on the east you have Hazaribagh district and Palamu District on the west. This Chatra district was bifurcated from Hazaribagh district during the year 1991 and now spreads an area of 3706 sq.km. This place has various scenery filled location that enchants man with nature through fountains, waterfalls and with flora and fauna, wildlife sanctuary and many picturesque spot to picnic and relax. The major cropping of this region is Paddy, Bajra, Maize and Pulses. The people here speak Magahi, Nagpuri, and Khortha as their domestic dialects and use Hindi and Urudu as their official language to communicate. The tribal people are known for music and dance is also a trend been followed here, therefore folk music and dance is very popular in this regions of chatra.

Places of Tourists Interest

The Graveyard of Jartrahibagh

This is a spot of memory to those martyrs who did revolt in the year 1857 and also to the Muslim soldiers of 1857 mutiny are also buried here; this spot has another name as Anjan Shahid.

Barura Sharif

This spot is named after a pious dedicated Sufi saint who lived here in the18th century, so forth, there is a shrine for Data Amir Ali Shah built at a height at the river banks of Sat Bahini offer a view of small ravine. The yearly celebrations at this Urs are done by both the Muslims and The Hindus expresses the symbol of unity living.

Hunterganj

This is another wonderful location of ancient dwellings in the state, you have Kauleshwari Devi temple situated at the top of the Kolhua hill nearby. The great values of olden day’s monuments are found here and some ruined temples images expresses Mahishasuramardini, Trishuladhami, Kaileshwari Devi and Lord Buddha in posture as meditation are the excellent values that still exist.

Bhaduli

This spot is located nearly 35 km from the district headquarters which has great values of historical proofs related to Buddhist relics. The other ancient locations are the Bhadrakali temple and a water reservoir will be an added attraction to this tourist spot. The water resources are provided by the river Mahanad near Itkhori.

Khaya Banaroo

Just a 10 km drive, this spot is located with evergreen lush surroundings with a popular picnic spot and a water reservoir around here.

Tamasin

This location makes us think of how would been the virgin earth before the birth of mankind, surely it would have been as void and dark around. This spot being dense forest it is dark even during daytime too, therefore, it is named as Tamasin means ‘darkness prevails’, this is a picnic spot to the tourists where they can visit the reservoir and the waterfall as the spot of attraction is located 26 km from the district headquarters.

Duari

Nature will be the man’s best friend to give him good health is real in this location because of herbal values around here; this spot is also called as Balbal Duari a hamlet which is situated on the Gidhaur-Katkam Sandi road. A hot water spring in the Balbal River is said to have medicinal values to cure skin diseases is just not a belief but real. This wonderful spot of natural bliss is located at 35 km from the district headquarters.

Kunda

You have a cave and the ancient 18th century Kunda palaces for tourist visit here.

Dumer summer Waterfalls

This spot is amidst the deep jungle where one has to walk 2km to reach such a wonderful location in these woods. The amazing waterfalls is dropping from great heights will be an enchanting worthy visit to this spot. This location is situated 12 km from the district headquarters.

Gogri waterfalls

This spot is situated 7 km from the district headquarters, this is a unique location to picnic and get relaxed.

Maloodah Waterfalls

This is another wonderful location situated in the deep woods of the state, where you can reach it by 5 km on road and 3 km if you stroll. This entire green wood spot and the waterfalls are located just 8 km away from the district headquarters.

Goa waterfalls

This waterfall is said to be the scared one among this hillock and a reservoir in the middle of the fall will be a visiting spot at this location. This is situated 6 km from the district headquarters.

Keridah waterfalls

This location is just 8 km from the district headquarters located between two rocks but the waters gush out in three parts will be a natural magic to our eyes to witness.

Bichkiliya

This spot is situated 11km from the district headquarters; you have ‘Dah’ or water reservoir on the banks of Niranjana River (Lilajan) and an exquisite waterfall.

How to get there

The district is well connected with roadways and railways that link to various parts of the country. The nearest airport is at Ranchi.
